Academic Awards
Brian Dickson C.J.C. Gold Medal (1995) - Awarded by the American College of Trial Lawyers to the top oral advocates at the Gale Cup Moot Competition held annually at the Osgoode Hall Courthouse, Toronto, Ontario.
Gale Cup (1995) - Canadian Bar Association (Ontario) awarded the Cup to the winning team of the Gale Cup Moot. Each Canadian law school competed with teams of four law students. Supreme Court of Canada Justices L'Heureaux-Dube, Cory, and Gonthier adjudicated the final. Issues: constitutional law and criminal law.
McMillan Bull Casgrain Award and the Polaj Award (1994) - McMillan Bull Casgrain and the Federal Government awarded these prizes at the Laskin Memorial Moot Competition in Halifax for excellence in oral advocacy. Each Canadian law school competed with teams of four law students. Issues: division of constitutional powers and administrative law.
Robert M. Bamford Memorial Award (1995) - The College of Law Faculty awarded this for excellence in oral advocacy. R. Bruce Ogilvie Memorial Scholarship (1994) - The College of Law Faculty awarded this to the student best exemplifying leadership, political activity, athletic involvement, and advocacy.

Ian has presented on legal issues at a number of conferences and has lead in-house training on several legal topics.
Conducting Criminal and Civil Sexual Assault Trials – Saskatchewan Trial Lawyers Association 2005.
Conditional Sentences and Drug Offences and Drug Offences and the Media – World Drug Symposium, Montreal, 2002.
Saskatchewan Public Legal Education Association – several presentations on driving while impaired and family law.
Ian has also lead internal training on cross-examining expert witnesses in sexual assault trials and preparation of witnesses for examinations for discovery.
As a former crown counsel Ian received training on examining alleged victims of traumatic experience, false memory syndrome and intensive training on conducting trials from Joel B. Kohm.
